Fox Cities Habitat’s vision is to ensure everyone has a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home. We were able to meet up with the Keepers family, who will soon move into our 321st build, and got a tour of their home! Hear from Crystal and her children on what they’re most excited about in their new home while they give you a quick tour. To meet the Keepers, watch the video below!

Crystal is a single mother to her five beautiful children; Nathan (18), Tristen (15), Arabella (11), Harlowe (5), and Olivia (1). She has faced a multitude of challenges throughout her past, but she has put in years of hard work in order to clean up her financial situation. When looking for places to rent, it was nearly impossible to find a place that was affordable, safe, and that fit her family. The Keepers spent several years living in homes that lacked basic amenities: properly working bathrooms, safe electrical outlets, insulation, safe floors and ceilings, etc.
Crystal’s counselor recommended Habitat to her after seeing how devoted she was to turning her life around for both herself and her family. She was first introduced to our Almost Home program and moved her family into a Habitat rental while she worked to get herself in a place where she could own her own home. After lots of hard work tackling a variety of small goals, she was able to achieve her main goal of getting accepted into the Habitat Homebuyer program! The family will be moving out of their rental and into their new home this fall. They are excited to see their hard work and goals finally come to fruition.
“Living in my Habitat rental has brought my family a great level of comfort that we never had before. I can feel proud about the changes I have made as I see my children’s lives so deeply enriched. Working with Habitat has given me so much hope and has been one of the best decisions that I have ever made.”
– Crystal Keepers
The Keepers cannot wait to host friends, landscape, grill in their backyard, and have a space that is officially their own. The kids are excited to have bigger bedrooms and already have plans on how they are going to decorate. Nathan and Tristen are excited to have their own rooms where they can play games and hang out with their friends. Arabella is excited to decorate her room with a beach theme including seashells on her walls that she plans to paint blue. Harlowe wants to turn the corner of her room into a cozy reading space where she can have fairy lights, pillows and plenty of books!
Crystal has worked tirelessly to give her family the chance to thrive, grow, and make memories in the warmth of their own home. By providing a stable and secure place to call home, we are building a brighter future for generations to come.
