2018 marks Fox Cities Habitat’s 25th anniversary. In celebration, we’ll be sharing stories and memories from the Habitat family. Have a memory you’d like to share? Contact Jodi Isom at [email protected]
I love Habitat because…
How can you not love an organization that helps people help themselves? That provides opportunities for individuals and families to better their situation through their own efforts.
An organization that allows you to pick your own work schedule and the type of work you want to do. That provides opportunities to build all over the world.
Locally, to be part of an affiliate that’s doing stuff most other affiliates are not: a little groundbreaking, a little adventurous, a little out-of-the-box.
It provides some structure, which many retirees need. After spending 40 years in a working environment and suddenly finding yourself with no place to go and nothing to do can be pretty scary, and maybe unhealthy.
Where else can you work with a bunch of people who actually want to be there? Who have the same dedication and work ethic as you do? Who enjoy being around other people who won’t cut them any slack?
It’s a great way to stay physically fit, with no membership fee.
At the end of the day you can see the result of your effort. A walls built. A roofs on. A family has a place to live.
It allows Bonnie and I to do something we both enjoy, together, but not necessarily side by side.
(And you thought I was going to say something about food)
