Habitat News

Staff Spotlight | Stepanie Lenz

I’ve been with Habitat for 1 year as of November! I grew up in De Pere and went to school at the U in the Twin Cities, MN (Packer fan, Gopher fan 😊) After school I worked for a small non-profit in St Paul for a little over a year as their Community Coordinator, working with neighborhood block clubs and different initiatives. I then spent 27 months in Paraguay, South America, as a Community Economic Development volunteer for Peace Corps Paraguay. My main project was teaching a business plan course at a local business high school. I fell in love with the country and the culture, so can give you an earful if interested. 😊 I knew I wanted to be closer to home after service, so moved back to Green Bay and worked for Brown County as an Economic Support Specialist for 3 years, before coming here. I enjoyed my last job but was getting a little stir crazy on the phones and stuck in a cube all day, and really wanted to work more directly with families again, so this opportunity fit perfectly! I love the energy here, from staff and other volunteers, and seeing everyone so dedicated to our mission and serving the families we work with.

When not working, I enjoy playing on a mediocre bar league volleyball team, camping, dreaming of living in a place that accepts dogs, and planning different excursions or gatherings with close friends and family. I make somewhat frequent visits back to MN and to visit close friends in Chicago, which may be part of why the commute from Green Bay to Habitat does not bother me–as long as I have my morning coffee!
