My name is Alicia and I am a busy single mother of 2 amazing and beautiful children. My daughter Raina is 8 years old and my son Michael is 5 years old. In the past few years I have really been focusing on creating a better life and future for myself and my children. Feeling frustrated with living paycheck to paycheck I decided to put myself through school while continuing to work and raise my children full-time. It was a struggle at times but a great accomplishment at the end. I graduated in March of 2015 with a degree in Medical Assisting and became certified right after graduation. I now have a job in Medical assisting that I love.
Currently my kids and I live in a very small two bedroom apartment with not much of a yard. It is very cramped and just not a place we can grow into any longer. It seemed only logical that the next step would be to find a house that we can make our home. I want nothing more than to be able to provide a better living environment for my kids. Unfortunately, being that I did not have the amount of money needed for a down payment on a house or the credit score required for a loan, I felt that this would never happen for us. Seeing my frustration, a friend of mine suggested that I apply at Habitat for Humanity. I did a little research and decided to go for it. During the application process the staff helped me to achieve the credit score I would need to be approved. I received a call on Christmas day telling me I had been approved for a home. I could not ask for a better Christmas gift!
I am learning so much through this whole process and cannot wait to become a homeowner. I feel so blessed and thankful to be a part of such a wonderful and life changing program and am looking forward to helping others achieve their goals of homeownership.
With Sincere Thanks,
The Dahlke Family
