I’m Jodi Isom, the Volunteer Services Manager at Habitat. In my role, I get to work with the greatest human beings on the planet – volunteers! In a world that is often full of negativity, it is a refreshing and wonderful thing to have a career working with people who are positive, encouraging, giving, self-less and kind. I often brag that Habitat has the best of the best volunteers and I’m constantly in awe of the amazing volunteers I am privileged to know.
I feel very fortunate to have been with Habitat for 17 years. It’s been fun to see the growth and impact Habitat has made on families and our community. When I first started here, we were just completing our 11th home. Now we’ve built more than 230 homes and added so many new programs, staff , donors and volunteers. I feel blessed to work at a Christian organization that helps me live out my own faith too.
I grew up in Appleton and attended Badger Elementary, Wilson Jr. High and West High School. I then went to a small Christian college then called Northwestern College in the Twin Cities (it has since changed to University of Northwestern). I have a degree in Youth Ministry and Bible. While at Northwestern, I met and married a very handsome Marine Corps vet. I’ve been married to Dave for 28 years. Dave works for Aurora Healthcare in the home medical field as a respiratory therapy assistant. Together we have 2 adult daughters who both live in the Twin Cities. Amanda is a school social worker and is also in grad school to get her masters of social work. Kaylee is a senior at Bethel University and is going to graduate in May with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. Some of you may have met Amanda when she spent the summer of 2014 as a VISTA at the ReStore.
I love spending time with my family, traveling and watching movies. It’s not a surprise to those who know me that our entire family are big fans of all things Disney. We love going to Disney World and Disneyland and taking Disney cruises and Dave and I even had the wonderful opportunity to visit Disneyland Paris and Aulani (Disney’s resort in Hawaii). Something that might surprise you about me is that I have learned to be a fan of cats. I grew up with dogs and still would call myself a dog lover but my family prefers cats so we’ve had many over the years and currently have a 17 year old cat named Tippy and a fun and spunky “grand-cat” named Ellie.
I want to end by saying the most heartfelt thanks to all who volunteer with Habitat! You’ve enriched my life and the lives of countless others. Thank you for giving of your time, talents and treasures to make the world a better place! God Bless each of you!
