Last week, nine Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity staff members headed to Atlanta, GA to attend the Habitat for Humanity International Global Conference. The conference, held every two years, was the first to bring together Habitat family members from around the globe; 2,500 attendees in all!
Not only did our Habitat staff have the chance to network with other Habi-teers from 1,400 US affiliates but were able to meet people from the over 70 countries in which Habitat serves. Fox Cities Habitat staff spent time with Danny, the National Director from Tanzania and learned about how our tithe dollars are helping empower Tanzanian families through micro-finance loans. The team also enjoyed breakfast with John, the National Director for Bangladesh who is currently working with our Almost
Home program’s Kristi Clover on a national water project for the region.
“It was not only incredible to learn from our partners abroad but to sit in the learning sessions with international staff was so insightful. I sat in a Crisis Communications session next to the communications person from Habitat Argentina and it was fascinating to discuss the issues she deals with there are the very same that affiliates in the US face, as well,” says Vaya Kiel, Communications Specialist.
The team attended 63 learning sessions in all with executive director, John Weyenberg, presenting in three sessions during the conference. They also heard from President and Mrs. Carter, success stories from Habitat homeowners and more.
