Senior Crew Spotlight | Monica Wildermuth

424bf5d8-6cd8-4382-b9e9-9b52e4321367I am married to Tom, my husband of 41 years. We have a son, Mitch, who is a lawyer in MN.  He resides there with his wife, Kim, and 2 year old son, Charlie.( Interesting fact: Since my grandson was born, our car can almost drive to MN on its own! Ha!) I retired in 2011 after being an elementary teacher for 36 years.  I loved teaching and taught 24 of those years in Appleton, mostly at Janet Berry, as a 5th and 6th grade teacher. I often say that God only gave me one biological child, but I  have loved a lot of

But pain is a great teacher… and since that day I keep “habitat” clothing in my car for any kind of weather at a job site. :-) I enjoy learning new things and building for habitat these last few years has been a real learning experience. I’ve gained confidence working with tools and better understand the sequence of construction. I found out that I’m better at some tasks than I ever thought I could be.  I also LOVE working with senior crew and interacting with all the different personalities.

Monica and AmandaIt doesn’t matter what the task is ….or what the weather is like, I always have a good time volunteering for Habitat. Although I like building the best, I have volunteered for deconstruction, been trained in site support, and have also cooked meals. It’s really surprising how many different ways you can serve in this organization.

When I’m not working with Habitat, I quilt, work out, read and water color. My husband and I travel someplace new about once a year. (But as I mentioned earlier, we like traveling to visit our grandson the most!) I also “meet and greet ” for AARP at Goodwill (Jan. through April) for people who get their taxes done for free.

I tend to be eclectic in my interests. I was a ballroom dancer for 19 years at TC Dance Club in Appleton. I LOVE Latin dance and once won 2nd Best of Show in competition for cha cha. Now I’m very “into” kickboxing. Haven’t really found a use for dancing or kickboxing at a construction site, but you never know!
