Sara Mogenburg began at the Habitat ReStore as a volunteer and soon joined the team as the AmeriCorps VISTA ReStore Specialist in August 2013. After her first term, she stayed with the organization but headed over to the Habitat offices to serve with the Family Services department until August of 2015.
“If I had to choose a single best memory, I would say the School Specialty donation was a neat opportunity from the Habitat ReStore years and also the policy changes in Family Services.” Sara made a huge impact by helping update old policies and integrate newer, more effective policies to better serve our families. The experience allowed Sara to challenge herself and gain work place skills.
“AmeriCorps helped build my professional skills and it also led me to discover my passion for social services, research and policy. I would say that AmeriCorps is a great opportunity to learn about nonprofit organizations and to discover how to apply your skills in to real world experiences and develop definable characteristics/qualities on a resume.”
Sara is currently finishing her bachelor’s degree in social work at UW-Superior.
